Manchester United have received a no from Atlético Madrid and Matheus Cunha to their efforts to sign the forward.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who back up claims from Spain that neither party are interested in doing a deal to take the player to Old Trafford.
They explain that after Manchester United’s interest in Cunha was reported in England on Monday, the answer from both the Spanish club and player has been no.
Cunha was informed of the interest from Erik ten Haag and co last week but ‘assured’ those in charge at the Wanda Metropolitano that he is happy and doesn’t want to leave.
They signed the 23-year-old from Hertha Berlin last summer and have ‘great confidence’ in him for the present and the future.
Because of that the €50m from Manchester United, which is a ‘not inconsiderate amount’ for a club who need the money, was rejected. Atlético are open to a sale, they just don’t want the player who leaves to be Cunha.
Thus, if United are keen on the forward and want him, they have some convincing to do on both Atlético and the player. If not, they would be wise to turn their attention elsewhere.
