Manchester United goalkeeper Altay Bayındır is ‘very tired and frustrated’ with his situation and so open to a return to Turkey with Galatasaray, but only if he is number one at the club.
That’s according to Sports Digitale journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu, relayed by GS Gazete, who says the Manchester United number two has made his demands clear to the club in the past and will stick by them.
Bayindir joined Manchester United in the summer transfer window but arrived very much as the number two to Andre Onana, who was also signed in the summer in a big money move from Inter Milan.
That’s played out across the season, with Turkish goalkeeper only making one appearance so far while Onana was at the African Cup of Nations.
He’s growing tired with that, according to Sabuncuoğlu, and has made it clear he would be open to returning to Turkey, where he previously played for Fenerbahce.
“Before coming to Fenerbahçe, Altay Bayındır returned from Galatasaray. The upstairs neighbour of his family’s house in Bursa was working in the Galatasaray scout team and met Altay,” he said.
“The young goalkeeper said, ‘I’ll come to Galatasaray, but I won’t be Muslera’s understudy,’ but when this was not accepted, he accepted Ersun Yanal’s offer at Fenerbahçe.
“Now he is on the agenda again. Altay may come to Galatasaray, but he doesn’t want to be a substitute. He declared it like this.
“Manchester United’s legendary goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar and goalkeeper Andre Onana, who is currently playing in front of Altay, work for the same management company. That’s why they are mobbing Altay. Altay is also very tired and frustrated by this situation.
“Altay is not the only player on Galatasaray’s list, Trabzonspor goalkeeper Uğurcan Çakır and Doğan Alemdar, who is currently on loan at Rennes, are also on their radar.”
