On Monday, El Chiringuito’s YouTube channel featured journalist Dario Montero bringing some news from La Liga’s biggest clubs.
Speaking of Barcelona, there was a lot of talk about contract renewals, and one of the players said to be in this process is Ronald Araujo.
The defender’s deal with the Camp Nou side expires in 2023, and that’s the reason why he’s been linked to a few potential destinations, especially Manchester United.
Dario Montero told Cule fans to be calm about this situation, as Araujo is keen on signing a new deal with Barcelona and has his agent working on the extension.
Briefly talking about Manchester United’s interest, the journalist claims the Red Devils currently offer the player a salary worth €10m per season.
Montero stated: ‘United offer €10m a year, net, to Araujo.”
Still, Barcelona wouldn’t even have to match those numbers to convince him of staying. It’s said his agent is looking for a reasonable pay rise, which matches the player’s current importance in the squad, and that should be less than what he’d earn at the Premier League side.
Montero repeats that the situation is calm, with talks progressing, and it seems that not even a big chunk of money from Manchester United will draw Araujo out of the Camp Nou.
Meanwhile, Mundo Deportivo comes up with similar information.
They say Manchester United had indeed been ‘advancing’ for the signing, but Araujo has ‘everything’ at Barcelona, where he wants to ‘make a career’.
The first renewal offer wasn’t close to pleasing the player’s agents, so it’s now over to Barcelona to try harder.
