Last week saw the Italian media really launch the idea of Diogo Dalot moving to AS Roma.
The fullback, who can play either on the right or left of defence, spent last season on loan at AC Milan, and his versatility made him a valued member of the Rossoneri squad. Milan considered keeping the Portugal international on a longer term basis, however, they couldn’t reach an agreement with Manchester United.
Roma are now facing similar problems, as reported by Gazzetta dello Sport on Sunday.
Dalot’s name has been pushed forward by Jose Mourinho, who managed the player at Old Trafford. Now in Italy with Roma, he believes the 22-year-old could be the answer to some of his current problems.
According to Gazzetta, Manchester United value their player at ‘at least’ €15m, and would want a mandatory purchase clause in any loan deal. Roma want the ‘right’ to sign Dalot permanently in the summer, but not the obligation to do so, they also want to pay less than €15m.
Therefore, it’s a ‘tough negotiation’ between the two clubs.
There’s a chance Manchester United want to assure themselves of a permanent sale so they can make a move for Atletico Madrid’s Kieran Trippier, and another loan deal doesn’t appear to benefit the Premier League club greatly.
