Manchester United might now have their chance to sign Leon Goretzka from Bayern Munich, with him still wanted by Erik ten Hag.

That’s according to journalist Florian Plettenberg, who says Manchester United have ‘never lost their focus’ on the 28-year-old after looking at him earlier in the summer window.

He reports that Goretzka remains on United’s list of possible targets this summer as they continue to strengthen their squad following deals for André Onana and Rasmus Højlund.

According to his information, Goretzka had originally wanted to stay at Bayern and was determined on that front, but the last ten days of pre-season have shown that he won’t be a starter under Thomas Tuchel next season.

The German boss appears to be planning with a midfielder of Kimmich and Laimer and wants to add a new number six to that mix as well.

If he succeeds it would me a ‘difficult situation’ for Goretzka, who faces the prospect of a season not playing as a key player for Bayern.

That has opened up the prospect of a move away from the Allianz Arena and thus Manchester United are someone to keep an eye on. Plettenberg insists that it is a ‘situation to watch’.

There’s no hint of a move for now but with his situation clearly not ideal and Manchester United long-term admirers, there’s a belief Ten Hag and his team could move to get the midfielder they want.
