Manchester United youngster Alvaro Fernandez ‘received proposals’ from Burnley and West Ham United this summer before deciding to return to Spain with Granada.
That’s according to Ideal, who cover the player today and his choice to go back to his homeland on loan at the end of the transfer window.
Fernandez had returned to Manchester United from a loan spell at Preston North End last season but was not part of Erik ten Hag’s plans this season given he has Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia at his disposal.
A temporary move away from Old Trafford was therefore hinted at throughout the summer but didn’t come to fruition as injuries to both Shaw and Malacia left Manchester United short.
It seems they were not the only option for the youngster, though, as Ideal report that Fernandez also ‘received proposals’ from Las Palmas and Espanyol as well as Burnley and West Ham in the Premier League.
This is the first time the latter two have been linked in any way and while Burnley’s interest is not surprising given they only have Charlie Taylor in the position after losing Ian Maatsen, West Ham’s is certainly out of nowhere given they have Aaron Cresswell and Emerson Palmieri at their disposal.
The nature of their proposals isn’t made clear, but it is stated that Manchester United value the youngster at €7m, so perhaps they were eyeing full transfers rather than loans.
Either way, the youngster ended up joining neither and instead returned to Spain, where he is hoping to continue his development and perhaps return to Old Trafford to compete for a place in future.
