On May 18th, La Repubblica reported that Manchester United are in the ‘pole position’ to take Victor Osimhen away from Napoli this summer.
Two days later, reports coming out of Italy stated the Red Devils are ‘ready to unleash an auction’ for the striker, who will not be allowed to leave the Serie A side for less than €100m.
Manchester United continued to be linked with the 23-year-old as they need a new No.9 next season, especially with Edinson Cavani leaving them as a free agent.
With the Uruguayan’s exit, new manager Erik ten Hag will only have Cristiano Ronaldo at his disposal. It would make sense for the English club to look for a new striker this summer.
The latest report from La Repubblica states AC Milan have joined Manchester United in the chase for the Nigeria international. Stefano Pioli needs a new centre forward even though his side have a deal in place to sign Divock Origi on a free transfer.
It’s claimed Milan chief Paolo Maldini probes the market and follows Osimhen’s situation at the Naples club with ‘great interest’. He is their ‘dream’ target and if the ex-Lille man were to be sold by Napoli, then the Serie A winners would ‘present a proposal’ to sign him.
La Repubblica explain that so far, the ‘most important offer’ has come from Manchester United.
The details of this proposal aren’t mentioned, but the newspaper states that Osimhen is an ‘alternative’ to Harry Kane as the Tottenham Hotspur star is the ‘first goal’ of Ten Hag.
