Manchester United continue to be named as a suitor for Raphaël Varane.
Over the past few weeks, various reports in the Spanish media have repeatedly discussed the Red Devils’ interest in the Real Madrid player.
The defender has over a year left on his contract and the La Liga side so far haven’t succeeded in their efforts to tie the 28-year-old to a long-term contract.
Mundo Deportivo on Tuesday take a look at the Frenchman’s contract situation with Los Blancos.
It’s claimed the centre-back isn’t in favour of renewing his contract, which would indicate he’s preparing to leave the club in the next market. The Spanish side would be forced to sell him in order to avoid losing the former Lens man for free in 2022.
The newspaper then states Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side and Paris Saint-Germain ‘love’ him, and for them to acquire the World Cup winner’s services, they will have to pay the €70m fee demanded by Zinedine Zidane’s side.
Real Madrid host Chelsea in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final clash on Tuesday, and Varane spoke to reporters during the pre-match press conference on Monday.
When asked about the rumours around his future, Varane said: “My future is clear: my focus is on the end of the season. We are in a very intense moment; we have to be focused on the games that lie ahead.
“The message to the fans is that I am 100% committed to the team. We have challenges that encourage us a lot. I’m focused on giving it my all on the pitch.”
Mundo’s report and Varane refusing to categorically rule out an exit indicates there’s a real chance for Manchester United or another suitor to sign the France international in the coming months.
