Just when it seemed the Henrikh Mkhitaryan to Inter rumours were about to die down, Corriere dello Sport dedicate a whole page to the story with the headline “Spalletti wants Mkhitaryan”.
A whole lot of it is the same as before, with the Serie A side’s financial constraints meaning a loan with a view to buy (non-compulsory) would be the likeliest outcome.
While Pastore appeared to be the favourite for a while, the Manchester United attacking midfielder’s versatility (capable of playing on either wing and providing competition for Ivan Perisic and Antonio Candreva), is what is convincing Spalletti.
However, there’s also the Borussia Dortmund alleged interest to take into account, with Corriere explaining ‘Manchester United will first want to verify’ whether that’s a viable option, before bringing Joao Mario back into the mix, and reiterating Mourinho is interested in his compatriot.
The question asked here is whether the Special One would be willing to ‘sacrifice’ the Armenian to bring a €45m flop to Old Trafford, and the answer appears to be yes, according to the Italian newspaper.
Taking into account Mkhitaryan’s ‘dull’ performance against Southampton, they don’t see any reason why Mourinho wouldn’t do the deal, with Joao Mario going the other way on loan too.
We can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings.
(We really can)
