Despite the transfer window having just shut, the rumours never stop, and Gazzetta dello Sport are guilty of depicting Manchester United and Manchester City as being in a battle for an Italian winger.
The player in question is Federico Chiesa, who has already been linked with the Premier League leaders in the past, but any move for him would have to wait until the summer (obviously).
Fiorentina know this, and that’s why there’s no real worry for now, as a number of clubs, on top of José Mourinho’s and Pep Guardiola’s, are after the young forward.
Napoli, Inter and Bayern Munich are listed as the remaining sides, with all five of them having ‘courted’ Chiesa in the past.
The interest from both Manchester sides actually makes sense, considering Manchester City were after Riyad Mahrez in January to fill a gap in their squad of a left-footed right-winger.
As for Manchester United, he could be the ideal solution to succeed Juan Mata at Old Trafford in that not-exactly-quick-but-still-very-useful-inside-forward role.
His ability to play on either side would also please José Mourinho, as will his effort to track back if asked to do so.
There’s nothing much in this at the moment, just a vague mention of their interest, but it’s certainly one we’ll be keeping an eye on as the season progresses.
