Manchester United ‘would be willing’ to bring Gareth Bale back to the Premier League this summer if his deal with Real Madrid is terminated.

According to Sport, the Spanish giants are willing to terminate Bale’s deal this summer to get the Welshman off of their wage bill.

The newspaper explain that as Bale’s transfer fee has now been amortised into the club’s finances, they are willing to cut their losses and let him leave on a free transfer.

Bale is currently earning around €17m (likely to be after tax) per season at the Bernabeu on a deal running until June 2022, meaning he could end up costing the club €70m by the time his contract runs out.

That is a high price to pay for a player that the club, specifically Zinedine Zidane, do not want.

Bale’s relationship with Zidane is said to have ‘rotted’ ever since his return last summer, partly as a consequence of the Frenchman’s efforts to get the forward out of the club.

Florentino Pérez will now ‘reluctantly’ let Bale go on a free transfer this summer, with the player described as a ‘headache’ for him and everyone else in charge at Madrid.

This has alerted Manchester United, who were interested in Bale ‘repeatedly in recent markets’ and would be willing to sign him on a free transfer should be he available.

Sport say it is ‘obvious’ that Manchester United would be a ‘good destination’ for the 30-year-old although they are not the only interested party, with Tottenham also named.

His representative, Jonathan Barnett, is aware of the interest and is currently weighing up their options, with MLS and Japan’s J-League also on the table.
