Manchester City have been presented as the frontrunners for Napoli star Kalidou Koulibaly by the Italian media. However, there’s not been serious developments on this case in the past few days.

Speaking to the reporters on Tuesday, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis stressed the questions about the centre-back’s future should be asked to “Manchester United, City” or any other club who can afford to sign the Senegal international.

Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio provides a fresh update on the Koulibaly saga, and drags City defender Eric García into the mix.

The 19-year-old has a contract until 2021, and has decided against signing an extension at the Etihad.

It’s claimed Napoli have set their sights on the Spain U21 international after losing out to Arsenal in the race for Lille’s Gabriel Magalhães.

Di Marzio explains City, who are ‘always chasing’ the Napoli defender, could use García as a ‘pawn’ in the operation to sign Koulibaly.

The journalist doesn’t specify whether or not García is willing to join the Serie A club in this window. That’s the key, because in Catalonia they’re convinced he’s set his heart on a move to Barcelona.
