Even though Manchester City are obviously one of the most active clubs in the European transfer market and sometimes get linked to players from Portugal, it’s rare to see them sending scouts to watch local games.
That’s why it’s interesting to read that, according to newspaper O Jogo today, a club scout from the Etihad were sent for the Europa League clash between Porto and Lyon last night.
Since Pep Guardiola’s side haven’t recently been linked to players from any of the two clubs, we can just wonder who may have impressed the Manchester City staff member in this tie.
A player who certainly got some attention was Lyon midfielder Lucas Paquetá, who continues in great shape and now scored the winner in the 1-0 victory.
His performance was followed by good displays from goalkeeper Anthony Lopes, midfielder Maxence Caqueret and winger Karl Toko Ekambi.
With quite a disappointing result, Porto didn’t have a lot to show. Vitinha continues to be the Dragons’ most important player, and showed that again last night. Goalkeeper Diogo Costa, midfielder Matheus Uribe and winger Pepê also had fairly good performances, even though that wasn’t enough to come out with a good result.
Even if Manchester City were there to watch some other player, perhaps one of those displays were enough to draw the scouts’ attention.
