With the rumours about Nicolas Otamendi’s future getting quite big in the past few days, there are reports about contacts from two clubs for the Manchester City defender today.
The most important claim comes from AS, who say that Atletico Madrid have opened talks to bring the player to the Spanish capital.
The story claims that the Colchoneros football director Andrea Berta has started contacts with agent Jorge Mendes in order to get the signing done in the summer.
AS claims that Atletico are ‘very interested’ in having the defender, who is now ‘close’ to making a move to the club.
Meanwhile, there’s some hope in Argentina that Otamendi could be going to his home country and joining River Plate, his favourite club.
DirecTV Sports (via AS) claims that the defender has been speaking to manager Marcelo Gallardo and has ‘serious chances’ of joining the Buenos Aires side for next season.
With Otamendi being still 31, staying in European football would make a lot more sense now. But regardless of the destination, it’s looking more and more likely that he’s leaving Manchester City in the summer.
