This season could be Pep Guardiola’s last at Manchester City, according to former Blues midfielder Didi Hamann.

Guardiola is in the final year of his deal at the Etihad, and so far there’s no concrete news on a possible extension.

The Spanish boss has made it clear he would like to stay but rumours about a potential return to Barcelona, and Manchester City looking elsewhere after their disappointing performance in both the league and Champions League last season, have continued to swirl.

Indeed, there are many that believe that would be the best option for the club, questioning Guardiola’s failure to win the Champions League, which is the ultimate aim for the club’s owners, despite his vast spending.

Hamann is one of those to have criticised the City boss, claiming last week that Guardiola had been lucky not to get sacked by this point.

He’s now doubled down on that criticism, revealing that he thinks this will be the Spanish coach’s last at the Etihad.

“I can imagine that it will be his last season,” he told SportBILD.

“It is only due to his name and good reputation that he is still there.

“If you look at it soberly, any other coach would have been kicked out after the embarrassing elimination against Lyon in the Champions League last season.

“I don’t see how he gets the team to peak again after four years. The zenith was passed after two years.”
