With Manchester City’s confirmation Claudio Bravo’s injury, the world press obviously had big coverage of it. Especially the outlets from Barcelona, where the goalkeeper previously played and now went to have medical exams.
When reporting it this morning, Mundo Deportivo claimed that an option for Pep Guardiola’s side to replace Bravo could be Jasper Cillessen. The Dutch keeper is also sitting on the bench at Barça and could be an alternative in Manchester.
But another Catalan outlet, this time Sport, was quick to dismiss the rumour.
In a story this afternoon, they’ve learned that Cillessen is not an option for Manchester City. The club would not be interested in signing the Barcelona goalkeeper in the next few days.
The outlet makes it pretty clear that this decision comes from Manchester City, and it’s not Barcelona who are blocking the move.
Still, it doesn’t mean that Pep Guardiola is not going after a replacement for Claudio Bravo. Sport claims that City will keep working to sign a goalkeeper until the transfer window closes.
Of course, the Premier League transfer window has already closed, but the Catalan media believe Manchester City have the ability to sign themselves a back-up.
Previously there have been allowances for emergency signings when a goalkeeper is injured, but perhaps the Catalan press are mistaking their own allowances for what happens in English football.
