When Braga signed Yan Couto from Manchester City on a loan at the start of the season, it was well known that the Portuguese club wouldn’t have a buying option over the player.

Now as the fullback is having his last months with the Minhotos, there’s a bit of a feeling of lamentation because they won’t have him in the squad for much longer.

Newspaper Jornal de Notícias today features a piece reporting that following the recovery from an injury, Yan Couto is now ‘ready to say goodbye’ to the Estádio Municipal de Braga, as they prepare for their last home game of the season.

The story then points out he’s leaving Braga with the club having ‘no hypothesis’ of signing him on a permanent deal, therefore he ‘will return’ to Manchester City following a season where he has played 41 games so far.

Manchester City signed Yan Couto from Coritiba back in 2020 on a €6m deal.

Once he got to England, the youngster was immediately sent on loan to Girona, and following a year in Spain, he moved to Portugal on another season-long deal.

The lack of a buying option in the agreement with Braga certainly shows that Pep Guardiola still thinks the player has some kind of future at Manchester City.

Now he waits and sees if it’s next season that he could finally be part of the club’s first team squad.
