Like many clubs this summer, AC Milan are looking to do something of a rebuild. However, financial fair play issues, which have already seen them kicked out of the Europa League, have limited their options somewhat.
It’s been well established the Serie A side are looking at cheaper options, particularly players who only have a year left on their contracts.
Manchester City’s Nicholas Otamendi doesn’t fit into that, with a deal lasting until 2022, but Calcio Mercato report Milan’s interest in the defender.
The website reports that Milan are looking at the Argentine as an alternative to Dejan Lovren, who is at the top of their wishlist but seemingly unattainable, so Otamendi is an option as he ‘reflects the required characteristics’.
The centre back isn’t thought to be a part of City’s core plans, and although he has two years left on a good deal at the Etihad, Calcio Mercato believe ‘a longer agreement with lower figures could be a good solution.’
Otamendi is represented by Jorge Mendes, an agent who has a strong relationship with Milan, so it’s insinuated there’s every chance he will push to get the deal done.
What is largely ignored is the potential transfer, and that could kill this Milan idea.
