Manchester City seem to be looking good in the race for former Sporting and now free agent midfielder Rafael Leão.
Reports about Pep Guardiola’s chase for the player started in Portugal and since they’ve also been covered in the English media, it’s encouraged their Portuguese counterparts further.
It’s newspaper A Bola who covers the news today, claiming that the biggest competitors Manchester City have are Sporting’s rivals Benfica.
But there are two reasons why the Eagles would have a hard time to sign Leão. First, because Manchester City obviously have more money to convince him. And second, because the player has been receiving threats over the possibility of joining Sporting’s arch rivals.
A Bola doesn’t have any exclusive update on Manchester City’s efforts. They take claims from The Times to say there would be a personal offer made by the Premier League side.
All the outlet knows is that Benfica are interested, and that in case of a battle with Pep Guardiola’s side, the Eagles are likely to lose.
Fives days ago we covered claims from Portugal that Manchester City had started talks to sign the 19 year old.
