Manchester City and Real Madrid are probably the clubs to have been linked most strongly with Junior Firpo in recent months.

The Real Betis fullback is having a good season, but it’s been hampered by injury. He picked up another issue last week, and AS report it could lead to Madrid pulling away, and subsequently a clearer path for Pep Guardiola’s club to get the signing.

Real Madrid could ditch the idea, explain the Spanish newspaper, because they’re worried about the four notable injuries Firpo has picked up over the past year and a half.

At least two of the issues have been in the thigh area of the right leg, and now Firpo is likely out for around a month at a key part of the season.

Manchester City have ‘intent to even pay the player’s release clause’, which is €50m and whilst the same has been said for Madrid, there’s some nervousness around the situation.

The 22 year old, who can play anywhere on the left side, has 16 La Liga appearances so far this season.
