Manchester City have become the latest club to join the race to sign Palmeiras’ Vitor Reis.

Last month, various claims from Brazil stated Arsenal have initiated contacts for the 18-year-old. Later that month, ESPN in Brazil reported that Palmeiras rejected Brighton & Hove Albion’s €25m bid and requested a fee higher for the defender.

Fast forward to January and UOL now states Manchester City are keen on signing Rios in the winter market.

The Citizens have identified the centre-back as a target to improve their defence and Pep Guardiola wants him at the Etihad as soon as possible. The English champions are making firm efforts to try and fulfil their manager’s wish in the ongoing window.

Manchester City have an agreement in place with the player and now have to agree a deal with the Brazilian club.

UOL state he Premier League winners are working to ‘formalise a tempting offer’ of €40m in the ‘next few hours’. If the deal goes through for this amount, Reis will be the most expensive defender to be sold from the Brazilian league.

Journalist André Hernan covered this report and took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to say Manchester City have a ‘verbal agreement’ in place with Reis and will now negotiate a deal with Palmeiras.
