Pep Guardiola has failed to help Manchester City replicate their form of the past two seasons during this campaign.
Aymeric Laporte’s injury setback in the early stages of this season has been one of the major factors as the Frenchman’s absence has left the manager with limited options in the centre-back position.
It’s no surprise the English champions will look to strengthen their defence in the summer and AS now claims Guardiola has Athletic Club Bilbao’s Unai Núñez on his radar.
The 23-year-old was linked with a move to West Ham United in January, but he decided to continue at the Basque club.
City are following the Spaniard and have asked about his situation in recent months. In addition to this, his impressive display in his side’s 1-0 victory over Barcelona in the Copa del Rey clash hasn’t gone unnoticed.
Núñez has a €30m release clause, which is ‘affordable’ in the current market. Athletic are trying to renew his contract, but the two parties are far apart and AS adds ‘renovation is almost impossible’ as of today.
The report also claims Bayern Munich and Inter Milan are also looking at Núñez.
