Manchester City and Valencia are ‘evaluating options’ over a deal for winger Ferran Torres this summer.
That’s according to Super Deporte, who dedicate a two-page spread to the winger’s potential move to the Eithad.
Yesterday we covered a slew of reports from Spain and Germany that Torres was on his way to Manchester City, with it claimed Pep Guardiola’s side are leading the race for his signature.
Super Deporte were one of those covering the situation, and they go into a whole load of new detail in their update today.
The newspaper explains that ‘all or most’ roads lead to Manchester City at this point for Torres, with City the club to have moved with ‘more determination’.
Talks are underway between both clubs to find a deal and, while that is happening, City chiefs are busy compiling an in-depth report on the player they hope will replace Leroy Sané at the Etihad.
Their interest goes all the way back to December, and Pep Guardiola is a big fan, having not only had his team compile a dossier on him but also done it personally covering topics such as ‘defects to be polished, personality, family, way of approaching life, and way of understanding football’.
Torres has seemingly passed these tests with flying colours as Super Deporte say his name is ‘doubly underlined’ at the club and has been that way for some time.
His development this season with Valencia has only enhanced their desire to have him, and Sané’s departure to Bayern has increased that to a ‘necessity’.
Thus they have made their move and, with his contract expiring next summer and no desire to extend, Valencia know they need to sell.
Even if that had not been an issue, they know they would struggle to convince Torres to stay, with Manchester City offering Premier League and Champions League football, a ‘project that aspires to be champion of all’ and ‘a dressing room with world-class figures’.
There is also the issue of Guardiola, a coach who it is stated will be able to develop the player and take him to ‘another dimension’ in his game.
Atlético Madrid and Juventus are also in the race, but it is City who are ‘in the lead’ and Torres has made it clear he prefers the Premier League too.
The onus is now on Manchester City to find an agreement with Valencia, who do not want to let their prize asset go on the cheap, even if they do need to find a deal.
