As German outlet Bild today talks about the options that Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich has for his future, Manchester City show up as one of the alternatives.
The report points out that since the player’s contract expires next year, he should either be sold this summer, become a free agent in 2025 or extend his contract.
Since Kimmich ‘doesn’t seem happy’ at Bayern Munich right now, partly because he hasn’t been playing in his original position and is adapted as a fullback, the departure is a real scenario.
That’s where Manchester City come in, as they’re one of the interested parties showing up abroad, as well as Barcelona.
Since his future is very much open, Bild expert Marcel Reif points out that Bayern Munich should put some conditions for a renewal, and a meeting with the manager who takes charge of the club in the summer will be crucial for that.
“They won’t continue to work together at any price. There will be enquiries, just as he is playing again now.
In case the departure does happen, then Bayern would like to avoid the free exit, and would rather make a ‘decent transfer fee’ this summer. Reif even came up with a price for that.
“That wouldn’t be undramatic! But not okay either, because he also owes this club something. Kimmich knows that the club can’t do without a transfer fee of €50m to €60m for a player like him.”
So even though this is a situation which should take a while to be sorted, that may end up in an interesting scenario for Manchester City.
