Cenk Tosun moving to Everton for a fee in the region of €25m isn’t just big news for Besiktas, it’s big news for Turkish football generally.
The move to Everton will be a record transfer for a player leaving the Turkish Super Lig, and football in the country is rightly proud to see one of their stars get a big switch to the Premier League.
On Thursday evening, Tosun played what has been described as his goodbye match for Besiktas, scoring the third goal in a 4-1 victory over Osmanlispor.
After the match the losing team’s manager Irfan Buz was asked about Tosun moving to Everton, and despite having just seen his team well beaten, was happy to wish the player well.
It would appear Turkish football as a whole is enthused by the move, and if Tosun does well at Everton then the Merseyside club could find themselves some new fans in Turkey.
