The recent success that Portuguese managers have been having in Brazil is convincing local clubs to go after more compatriots of Jorge Jesus and Abel Ferreira.
So with Corinthians now in need of a new boss, they’ve been linked to the likes of Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Bruno Lage and now to Nuno Espírito Santo, who most recently managed Tottenham Hotspur.
It’s been claimed the Timão recently made an approach to get to know the chances of landing the 48-year-old, and just as expected the possibility of snapping up the once Spurs man seems very low.
Journalist Jorge Nicola went after this story and spoke to an agent who’s ‘influent in the Portuguese market’.
“Nuno has a huge market in European football. He has just come from two jobs in England, the main league in the world”, said his source.
Nicola points out that Nuno Espírito Santo would make a lot more by staying in Europe than moving to South America, and it’s also claimed the manager received €16.5m when leaving Tottenham last year, meaning the chances of him moving to Brazil are ‘almost zero’.
Another reason why Corinthians would find it difficult to land him is that the coach is represented by Jorge Mendes.
He’s a competitor of Giuliano Bertolucci and Kia Joorabchian, two agents who have strong ties with the Brazilian side.
Currently unemployed, Santo was in charge of just 17 games at Tottenham during a brief period working with Fabio Paratici and Daniel Levy, winning nine, drawing one and losing the other seven.
