On June 18th, we covered claims from Chile that intermediaries had been in contact with Manuel Pellegrini to speak to the manager about the possibility of taking over at Everton.

Since Carlo Ancelotti decided to walk out on Goodison Park to return to the glitter of Real Madrid, the Premier League club have been searching for his replacement.

It would appear multiple options have been considered, and even tried, given the Toffees now look set to appoint Rafa Benitez, against the wish of many of their supporters.

The Spaniard’s links with Liverpool have caused an annoyance for some, whilst others believe there’s been better options out there for the Merseyside club to go for.

Over in Chile, the Pellegrini claims stated Everton had also been keen a few years ago, and a middleman had made contact this summer. Currently at Real Betis, the coach has a release clause of around $4.5m.

Despite the reports, it was explained Everton had made no official offer to Pellegrini to become their new manager.

Tuesday’s edition of AS has a little snippet on the situation. They state the former West Ham boss doesn’t contemplate an exit from Real Betis this summer.

Everton and Fenerbahce are named as being options of a new job this summer, and it’s made clear Pellegrini just wasn’t tempted enough to break his commitment to the Spanish club.
