Manchester United parted ways with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last November and appointed Ralf Rangnick as their interim manager until the end of the season. The latter will work as a consultant for two years, starting from the summer.
Prior to the German’s arrival at Old Trafford, the Red Devils looked at Mauricio Pochettino. However, they couldn’t manage to take the 49-year-old away from Paris Saint-Germain midway through the season.
The Premier League side will need to appoint a permanent coach in the summer and the former Tottenham Hotspur manager is again in contention.
Earlier this week, multiple reports from the British press stressed Pochettino is one of the leading candidates for the Manchester United job. The Argentine’s immediate focus will be on PSG’s Champions League clash against Real Madrid.
Ahead of the European tie between the two clubs, Cadena Ser’s El Larguero interviewed the Ligue 1 manager. It was no surprise the coach was quizzed about the reports linking him to United and the possibility of Zinedine Zidane [without a job now] replacing him at PSG.
“I don’t know, it’s not up to me to decide. Zidane is a great coach, he already showed it at Real Madrid. He can train anywhere in the world. In addition to this, he’s French. That is one more question for the sporting director or the president,” Pochettino said.
When pressed whether Real Madrid is ‘still a pending issue’ for him, Pochettino said: “I go step by step, like Cholo Simeone (laughs). I think you have to enjoy the moments. We cannot be thinking about what is going to come.”
“We have to be concentrated and focused on what we have now and football will have whatever it wants with us later. We are responsible for doing our best and giving 100% for the club we work for. We are 200% focused on PSG and on giving this club the happiness they expect from us.”
