Argentine national team manager Jorge Sampaoli has been doing a European tour in the past few days, watching several players who he could be taking to the World Cup in Russia later this year.

And as reported by La Nueva, the boss has been in Manchester in the past few days. Other reports had already claimed he would watch Manchester United’s match against Stoke City, and now it’s said that the manager had a meeting with Sergio Romero and Marcos Rojo on Tuesday.

A source from Sampaoli’s staff told La Nueva that the manager ‘changed concepts’ with both players, which often happens when the athletes play in a different continent and play a different football.

An interesting thing about this visit is the case of Sergio Romero. The goalkeeper was said to be close to a Manchester United departure as he needs to play regularly to be called up for the World Cup.

But La Nueva doesn’t seem to put this into doubt, as they point out the condition never stopped the goalkeeper from playing for Argentina, even though his case was analysed by Sampaoli.

Rojo’s situation is a bit different. Due to his knee injury, he hasn’t been called up by Sampaoli yet, but there’s the expectation that he should be returning to the team soon, especially after being mentioned by the manager in a press conference.

Since none of the players featured against Stoke, Sampaoli’s visited was probably only worthwhile to watch Manchester United’s great display.
