PSV technical manager Marcel Brands has confirmed to the Dutch media Wolverhampton Wanderers and Brighton and Hove Albion tried to sign Jürgen Locadia last summer.

The attacker eventually signed for Brighton in the January window despite Wolves making an offer on six months prior to his move to the Premier League.

Voetbal Zone have reported on comments Brand made to the Vi.nl when quizzed about Wolves interest in Locadia last year “First came Wolverhampton Wanderers in the afternoon, they wanted to pay €11m, but Locadia hesitated about the Championship. At six o’clock Brighton came back, but he’d been taken off the market.”

On deadline day last summer we covered reports Wolves had tabled a bid in the region of €11m, and it seemed the deal would be announced before the window closed.

However, reports emerged from the Netherlands that PSV had pulled the plug on the deal with Wolves, but from Brands’ comments it looks like Locadia had the final say.

At the time we said this would have come as a blow to Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo. However, Wolves got promotion to the Premier League last week and now join Brighton in the top flight, so everything turned out just fine.
