Hans Vanaken’s desire to push through a move to West Ham United this summer is ‘logical’ despite his connection to Club Brugge.
That’s according to his current manager Carl Hoefkens, who insists he would understand if his star player were to depart before the window closes at the end of the month.
Vanaken has been linked with a move to West Ham for several years without a deal ever coming to fruition.
It’s well established that the Hammers are fans of the player, though, and that has seen them reignite their interest this summer.
David Moyes is seemingly keen to add a creative midfielder to his squad after Nikola Vlasic departed the club on loan and Vanaken is the man he’s targeting.
Reports this week have West Ham pushing to get a deal over the line, even going as far as to say that Vanaken is determined to make the switch to the London Stadium as he sees it as his last chance to play in the Premier League.
The notion of a player pushing to leave his club isn’t one that usually goes down well but Hoefkens admits he can see why that would be the case.
“Hans is an incredible player, who has already given a lot to the club”, said Hoefkens in a press conference, reported by Walfoot.
“He also has a great influence on the way we play. As long as he is here, he will be in my team and on the pitch.
“Of course, I would understand if Hans wanted to play in the Premier League, that’s normal.
“As a coach, I obviously want him to stay, but it would be logical for a player like him to have ambitions.
“As I said, I still want to work with him. The rest is between him and the management.”
