Peru are putting special plans in place to deal with Manchester United youngster Facundo Pellistri when they face Uruguay in March.
That’s according to El Observador, who say Peru coach Ricardo Gareca is planning to re-use the tactics he used against Liverpool’s Luis Diaz when they played Colombia at the end of January.
That game saw Peru run out 1-0 winners courtesy of an Edison Flores strike in the 85th minute.
Liverpool’s new signing was particularly quiet in the game, and El Observador report that was partly due to the tactics employed by Gareca, set out Aldo Corzo to man-mark the winger.
The newspaper explains that Pellistri was ‘influential’ on the wing in Uruguay’s 4-1 win over Venezuela at the beginning of February.
Peru want to avoid him having such an influence in their upcoming clash and so will use their plan once again.
According to the newspaper, they are ‘already thinking’ about how best to mark the Manchester United man and limit his influence on the game.
Whether that’s a trick that’ll work remains to be seen, but it seems Gareca and co are worried about what Pellistri might do to them and are putting plans in place to deal with him more than a month before they face him.
