Earlier in June, Steaua București owner Gigi Becali claimed Manchester United were interested in signing Dennis Man and revealed he had asked €30m for the forward’s signature.
According to Calciomercato, the Red Devils were not the only club interested in signing the 20-year-old as AS Roma sporting director Monchi wanted to beat the Premier League side to his signing, but their approach was turned down.
It’s claimed the winger is one of the most wanted prospects of Romania and Eastern Europe and the 20-time English champions continue to hope to get hold of him in January.
The report mentions the player started as a striker and was moved to the right wing at his current club, which gives him license to shoot with his left foot.
His overall abilities make him a quality player for the future, it’s stated he goes missing – like a ‘ghost’ – during games, only to pop up and haunt his opponents.
There is still a mention of a price tag of €30m for the attacker, but the Italian outlet claims a fee around half of that should convince Becali to sanction his sale. Jose Mourinho is said to still be following Man’s progress and both Manchester United and Roma are waiting for the București’s owner to start accepting bids for the wideman.
It’s worth noting that Becali can’t always be taken at his word, and may be trying to increase the perceived value of his player.
