Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are among the clubs in the picture to sign PSV Eindhoven’s Xavi Simons, according to multiple reports.
Last summer, the Eredivisie side took the 20-year-old from Paris Saint-Germain, who also have a €6m buyback option. That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who say this clause would only be valid in July.
The report says PSG couldn’t exercise this option if the forward doesn’t give his approval. The player, who has received interest from Manchester United, Tottenham, Arsenal and others, will make the ‘final decision’ on his future.
Meanwhile, Voetbal International, relayed by Voetbal Primeur, state Manchester United, Spurs and BVB have joined Arsenal in the race for the Netherlands international. VI also add PSG, who have a buyback option, will ‘certainly’ contact his entourage.
De Telegraaf say the ‘big question’ for PSV is whether they can retain their star beyond this window.
It won’t be easy for PSV to keep Simons because of the interest he has received from top clubs and this is when Manchester United, Tottenham and Arsenal are mentioned.
De Telegraaf state Arsenal ‘in particular’ have an advantage because of their ‘good’ ties with his agent, Darren Dein, who is the son of their former director, David Dein.
It’s also stated the Dutch club are negotiating with his agent over a new deal.
The Dutch newspaper states: ‘Demolition of the notorious PSG clause is paramount and in order to achieve this, PSV are prepared to include a financially favourable provision for Simons in a new contract in return, so that the top talent will participate in a future hit.’
Simons managed 22 goals and 12 assists from 48 games last season.
