It’s amazing how quickly things are blown out of proportion in the transfer window, and the situation surrounding Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is no different.
Earlier this week, we relayed a claim in Il Messaggero that Manchester United had sent a scout to watch the Serbian midfielder against Sampdoria, in which the Italian newspaper also explained Lazio valued their star at around €100m.
That’s all it was, and there was never any claim about a bid being readied, or anything of the sort, as spending that amount midway through the season was never on the cards for the Red Devils, nor would selling Milinkovic-Savic be one for the Serie A side.
However, that hasn’t stopped talk from blowing up, with headlines of José Mourinho ‘considering move for Lazio ace’, and that’s infuriated his agent, who happens to be former Chelsea striker Mataeja Kezman.
Speaking to TuttoMercatoWeb, he said: “What I read is wrong in more than one way, and puts unfair pressure on Lazio that could break the perfect balance in the dressing room during this magnificent season for both Sergei and the team.
“As I said a million times, at the moment, Milinkovic-Savic is not for sale at any price. It is absolutely not the time to talk about transfers.”
Just because a team scouts a player doesn’t mean they’re going to move for him in the next transfer window, and it would be far more logical if Manchester United, were they to actually want to sign the Serbian midfielder, waited until the summer.
At that point, we’re sure Lazio, and Mateja Kezman, might be more open to sitting down for a chat.
