In the first of its kind, Liverpool have been linked with Atlético Madrid’s Sime Vrsaljko for a January transfer.

Despite the purchase of Andy Robertson and the renewed use of Alberto Moreno at left-back this season, the Reds still appear to be lacking quality in the role, hence the recent transfer rumours surrounding Faouzi Ghoulam.

With that now becoming an expensive transfer since he renewed his Napoli contract until 2022, it appears Liverpool have turned their attention to the Croatian full-back.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Jürgen Klopp’s side and Monaco are the two main competitors for Napoli, who have been after Vrsaljko for quite some time.

With the La Liga side asking for around €25m, and Napoli seemingly refusing to go over €15m, there’s a window of opportunity here.

Normally a right-back, the defender can also play down the left, hence the Serie A side’s interest in him following the aforementioned Ghoulam’s injury.

We’ll see soon enough if Liverpool’s name was thrown into the mix for excitement purposes, or if there’s anything behind it.
