One of the bigger (transfer) stories of the past week in Spain has been the future of Raphaël Varane at Real Madrid.
The France international’s contract with the La Liga side expires in 2022, and with no renewal agreement in sight, clubs in the Premier League have expressed their interest.
Manchester United have been leading the chase for quite some time, and it was even stated the player was ‘very, very advanced’ in talks to swap Santiago Bernabéu for Old Trafford.
This is somewhat backed up by France Football on Monday, who explain the centre-back ‘seems to be interested in a Premier League experience’, where the Red Devils and Chelsea are ‘ready to fight for him’.
The question they ask is whether they will be ready to do so ‘from next summer’.
That will largely depend on Real Madrid and whether they agree to sell him, or if the La Liga giants dig in their heels and keep him for as long as possible, fully aware they would lose him on a free in 2022.
Either way, that’s Spain and France giving us news that Varane to Manchester United could happen.
There’s no smoke without fire.
