At the start of this month, ABC in Spain explained Manchester United have ‘knocked on the door’ for Real Madrid’s Raphaël Varane.

Earlier this week, reports from England stated the Red Devils will chase the defender when the window reopens after this season.

On Wednesday, AS relayed claims made in the British press and said United have received encouragement in their pursuit of the 27-year-old because he is considering leaving Real Madrid.

Varane’s contract runs down in 2022 and there’s been no suggestion about him signing an extension with the La Liga side.

El Chiringuito TV journalist Jose Alvarez Haya has now provided an update on the Old Trafford club’s effort to sign the centre-back. He claims the France international is ‘very, very advanced’ with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

According to the journalist, one factor would force Real Madrid to negotiate the price and it’s the duration left on the World Cup winner’s current deal. Those in charge at the Santiago Bernabéu are assuming the player will not renew his contract at the club.

Taking this into account and that Varane is ‘very, very advanced’ with Manchester United, Zinedine Zidane’s side will consider selling him in the summer.

Varane’s current situation and the stance taken by Real Madrid is likely to come as positive news for United.
