There’s a nice little snippet in Monday’s edition of Marca about David De Gea and his concern for Luke Shaw at the weekend.

In general, the Spanish media are falling over themselves to praise the Manchester United goalkeeper, following his performance against England. During the World Cup and in the aftermath of Spain’s exit, De Gea got more crticism than any other player.

For the week leading up to the England match there were serious suggestions Chelsea’s Kepa could and should get the nod to be Luis Enrique’s first choice… now that’s largely gone, until next time.

As part of this coverage, Marca say De Gea couldn’t fully enjoy the post match praise because he was ‘preoccupied with Shaw’.

The Spanish newspaper says the goalkeeper and left back are not only teammates, but also friends away from the pitch. Keen to know first hand that Shaw was ok after his head bang, De Gea couldn’t be ‘calm’ until he found out the situation wasn’t as serious as some initially feared.

Marca say Shaw is one of the Manchester United players ‘most connected’ with the Latino contingent at the club, and they add: ‘The injuries he has suffered and how complicated it has been to settle in the team at Old Trafford, has made him very loved and appreciated in the dressing room of United.’
