On March 16th, we carried a report from Sport, who explained that Manchester United are ‘willing to make a significant effort’ to sign Samuel Umtiti.
Friday’s edition of the same newspaper states Barcelona seriously hope of ‘making a good transfer’ in the summer as the centre-back has already recovered from knee injury.
The Red Devils get a mention as they are one of the ‘most interested clubs’ in taking the France international. In addition to this, the Old Trafford club have already contacted the 26-year-old’s entourage.
It’s claimed the La Liga winners, however, have not received an official proposal from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side for the World Cup winning defender.
The Catalan club are looking for a fair deal to open the exit door for Umtiti, but they are aware it will be difficult for them to receive an offer close to €50m.
Although Sport indicates United are one of the clubs who remain keen on signing the player, there’s nothing to suggest they will convert their interest into a bid to sign Umtiti.
These rumours have been around for over a year, and given Umtiti’s fitness situation it feels a stretch for huge clubs to be tussling over him.
