One of the big stories in the build up to last summer’s transfer window, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic was supposed to be the midfielder everybody was fighting over, with price tags of €150m being thrown around by the press.
In the end, the Serbia international stayed at Lazio, and this season has been a bit of a damp squib, even if recent performances have suggested he could be back to his best.
In fact, Il Messaggero claim his return to form has caused some of the usual suspects to come crawling back, which includes both Manchester United and Manchester City.
The Italian state both sides have ‘returned to the queue’ of clubs interested in Milinkovic-Savic, as have Real Madrid and the two Milan clubs.
Of the two Premier League clubs, Manchester United will be the more desperate, especially if they do lose Ander Herrera, leaving them with just Scott McTominay, Fred, Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic in midfield.
Seeing a renewed opportunity, Claudio Lotito, the Serie A side’s owner, has apparently puffed out his chest once more and slapped a hefty price tag on his star, hoping to get €100m out of him in the upcoming transfer window.
However, this seems more like wishful thinking than anything else, but negotiations have to start somewhere, right?
“You say €100m, we say €60m, let’s work something out”, kinda thing.
