This week, Atletico Madrid’s Lucas Hernandez spoke to RMC and explained that whilst he’s happy at the club, things in football can change.
It’s a well used line, and Lucas also suggested that if an amazing offer arrived he’d have to consider it.
This has obviously made the news in Spain, and Marca insist he already has such offers on the table, including from Manchester United.
Not for the first time it’s claimed the Red Devils have made a ‘dizzying offer’ to the player and notified him they’d double his wages if he dedies to move.
Until Lucas extends his contract, clubs can get the France international for his €80m buyout clause, which Marca say isn’t scaring off Manchester United and others.
The Spanish newspaper call it the ‘doubts’ of Lucas, and they suggest that whilst a transfer once felt impossible, with the player set against it, his words now make the opposite clear.
This could of course all be part of a plan to pressure Atletico Madrid into offering a really big renewal, and using supposed interest from Manchester United and Manchester City to do it.
Whilst he can play in central defence, Lucas has made his name as a left back, and with Luke Shaw impressing as much for the Premier League side as the Frenchman is doing in La Liga, a swoop wouldn’t appear obvious.
