Two things needed to be added to the Pierre-Émerick Aubameyang mini transfer saga to truly round it off. Firstly, there had to be a serious China link, with the possibility of Aubameyang moving from Borussia Dortmund to become the world’s best paid footballer.

Secondly, no self respecting forward can be anywhere near the transfer market without a link to Manchester United.

L’Equipe have conveniently ticked off both boxes in their Tuesday edition. The French newspaper report that Manchester United are keen on Aubameyang, and ‘have told several intermediaries’ about their position.

Those intermediaries have been told Aubameyang is on Manchester United’s list of forward targets ‘just behind the Frenchman Antoine Griezmann’.

Aubameyang’s first choice would be to sign for Real Madrid, but the Spanish club are either uninterested or keeping their interest very quiet indeed. Naturally, L’Equipe also mention interest from PSG.

Over to China, and Tianjin Quanjian, they of Diego Costa fame, are ready to tempt the lightning quick forward. Tianjin would make Aubameyang the best paid player in the world, and there’s some confidence he may accept.

L’Equipe say a number of the player’s relatives have urged him to go for the money.

As it stands, Aubameyang needs to decide whether to wait for a huge club, and see if Manchester United interest turns concrete, or start to wonder how he’d feel as the best paid footballer on the planet.
