Newcastle United are interested in Ryad Boudebouz, according to Tuesday’s edition of L’Equipe. The French newspaper say Newcastle United are one of a number of clubs keen on the Montpellier player, who has a contract with his current club until June 2019.
Boudebouz’s statistics this season will have caught the eye. Mainly playing as an attacking midfielder for Montpellier, the 27 year old has 11 goals and 9 assists to his name in Ligue 1.
That’s been in a struggling team, with Montpellier only recently confirming their Ligue 1 status for next season. The French club are thankful to Boudebouz and have agreed to sell the player for a reasonable fee.
That price has been agreed at around €15m, which wouldn’t be a problem for newly promoted Newcastle.
Rafael Benitez has said he’s looking to add Premier League experience to his Newcastle squad, and whilst Boudebouz doesn’t fit into that category, he’d be a good value signing, leaving money to spent elsewhere.
Newcastle won’t have it all their own, with other interest from the Premier League, and Boudebouz isn’t ruling out a move to Lyon. Having been keen on a move outside of France, Boudebouz is tempted by Lyon’s interest.
