With Manchester United scouting several Benfica games this season and Darwin Nunez doing so well for the Eagles, it’s inevitable that the striker moving to Old Trafford would become a rumour.
It’s been a few months since those links started, with recent claims saying the Red Devils had indeed been keeping an eye on the player, and a story even saying the Old Trafford club were the ‘favourites’ for his signing this summer.
Now as it’s clear there’ll soon be a big battle for his signing, Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manhã today points out the chance that English clubs will have to watch Darwin Nunez against a top Premier League side this week.
Benfica are receiving Liverpool at the Estádio da Luz on Tuesday evening, and as written by the outlet, he’ll be ‘watched with maximum attention’ by those interested clubs.
Manchester United are once again named as one of the contenders for the signing, with Correio da Manhã claiming the Red Devils have ‘already shown interest in the player’, along with the likes of Barcelona, Manchester City and West Ham United.
Benfica, who have Darwin protected in a contract running until 2025 and with a release clause worth €150m, know they can make big cash with his sale this summer, and that’s why they’ll demand at least €80m to let him go.
With Manchester United scouting so many games in Portugal throughout the whole season, it won’t be a surprise to see them at the Estádio da Luz tomorrow night, even because they are indeed expected to be there this time.
