Over the past week, French newspaper L’Equipe have been looking at the contribution of Paul Pogba to the France team. Indeed, it dates back some time, a distinct disappointment that he wasn’t living up to the hype and being the match winner the French wanted him to be.

That changed against the Netherlands on Monday night, with the Manchester United player scoring the only goal of the game and being crucial in the win. On Tuesday there followed huge Pogba praise, both from L’Equipe and elsewhere in France, and now there’s several new worries for the newspaper.

One of those is the form of Anthony Martial. The Manchester United attacker hasn’t been at his best so far this season, and L’Equipe say he simply wasn’t in the game when he came on against the Netherlands.

It’s explained Martial doesn’t really seem totally on it, especially in training, and that recently he’s been ‘unrecognisable’.

Didier Deschamps called up 7 attackers to the squad, and L’Equipe believe it’s unlikely he’ll take 8, which means something has to give for Olivier Giroud to return, and Borussia Dortmund’s Ousmane Dembele is another serious option.

Martial needs to get back to basics, and find his form, as far as the French newspaper are concerned. He may be out of the squad anyway, but if things don’t improve then he that’s taken for certain.
