Last weekend, we relayed news from Spain that Manchester City are seen as a ‘big player’ in the battle to sign Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland.

On Wednesday, SportBild stated BVB are ‘fighting’ to retain the striker until 2023, and to do that, they are planning to offer him a new deal that will see his salary increase from €8m to €15m.

AS have relayed these claims and they add the Bundesliga side are ‘not particularly optimistic’ about retaining the 21-year-old beyond this season.

When the Norway international arrived in Germany from Red Bull Salzburg in 2020, his father, and his advisor Mino Raiola, had a ‘verbal agreement’ with Dortmund, to facilitate the star’s sale in 2022 for a ‘symbolic price’ of €75m.

Raiola tried to take Haaland away from BVB in the summer, but he wasn’t successful. The super-agent is now convinced to take his client to a club ‘with full options to compete in everything’ at the end of this season.

Real Madrid, as per AS, seem to be in a ‘prominent position’. However, Pep Guardiola’s side cannot be ignored. The newspaper explains ‘other greats’ like City and Bayern Munich ‘will be in the fight’ for the major signing.

Another report from AS states Los Blancos’ priority is to sign Kylian Mbappé, and Haaland next summer, and they have funds to secure these deals. Real Madrid’s relationship with Raiola is ‘tense’ and the club are not in favour of paying hefty commission.

Raiola, on the other hand, wants to have a ‘fluid relationship’ with the La Liga side.

Despite Manchester City and Bayern being in the ‘fight’ for Haaland, the advisor’s desire to ease his relationship with Real Madrid can ‘tip the balance’ in the Spanish club’s favour.
