There have been some wild claims thrown around regarding the future of Schalke 04’s German starlet Leroy Sané, including that of a confirmed transfer to Manchester City.
Sport in Spain reported this being a done deal, yet SportBild and Schalke themselves are far from convinced about this, as has been made clear in this week’s edition.
Speaking to the German magazine, Schalke’s new manager Christian Heidel explained that he is yet to discuss Sané’s future with the player himself; a conversation that will take place once the Euros are over.
He said: “Leroy Sané must meet after the European Championship regarding a fundamental decision for his future. We have always made it clear that we would be pleased if Leroy Sané remains at Schalke.”
The club are also keen to avoid a repeat of Julian Draxler’s transfer to Wolfsburg last season, which saw the German winger leave the club on the 31st of August.
SportBild reckon the player’s future should be decided by the end of July, unless they start holding out for a bigger fee if they feel that is an option.
The German magazine states Manchester City are willing to put more than €50m for the player, and that Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Arsenal and Barcelona are all behind them, waiting.
Perhaps the aim of the game is to wait until next summer, when the player’s €37m release clause becomes active?
That is, of course, unless he signs a renewal this season.
