Outlets from the Portuguese media continue to report that Pedro Porro’s permanent exit from Manchester City should be sorted out very soon.
On Wednesday, it was newspaper Record who had said that Sporting are about to trigger the clause to sign the fullback. Even though they could do it until 2022, they’d anticipate the purchase to help the Premier League side with Financial Fair Play.
Something very similar is now reported by O Jogo, who today write that the signing will be done ‘in the coming days’.
They mention that the transfer was only supposed to be completed at the end of the season, and now add that Sporting are looking to avoid the interest from any other club until then.
O Jogo explains that even though Manchester City are about to spend €117m on the signing of Jack Grealish from Aston Villa, the club ‘are in difficulties’ with Financial Fair Play and need to make sales. So by signing Porro now, Sporting could even get a discount on the €8.5m clause.
Pep Guardiola’s side spent €12m to sign Porro from Girona back in 2019. Following his arrival, they first loaned him to Real Valladolid and then agreed a two-year spell with Sporting. He excelled in his first season with the Lions and even made his debut for Spain.
Now the Lisbon side are expected to protect him with a release clause of €45m.
