Last weekend, we covered claims from Sport that Barcelona are open to the idea of a swap deal with Manchester City for João Cancelo and Nélson Semedo.
On April 15th, the same newspaper explained the former Valencia man is ‘crazy’ to join the La Liga winners as he ‘hasn’t adapted to life in England’.
Thursday’s edition of Sport now talks about the Etihad club wanting to sign Semedo when the transfer window opens.
It’s claimed Pep Guardiola’s side are ‘really interested’ in the Catalan club’s right-back and are ready to take him either by paying a fee or as part of a swap deal for Cancelo.
City are in the market for a new right-back because Cancelo, who arrived in England from Juventus last summer, hasn’t convinced this season.
Cancelo and Semedo are represented by Jorge Mendes and the agent put the swap option on the table, while he also ‘responded to the great interest’ of the English champions to take the Barcelona fullback.
City tried to sign Semedo last summer, but Barcelona decided against letting him leave, according to Sport.
The Blaugrana are aware of the English champions’ interest in Semedo and they are open to the idea of swap, provided they also receive some money in return.
Barcelona’s priority, if Semedo doesn’t renew his contract, is to sell him directly for a price above €40m.
